Metadata & Tagging

Add titles, descriptions, tags, and distribution metadata to your videos to maximize reach and partner eligibility.

Opening the metadata editor

From the Media Library, click any video title or thumbnail to open its detail page. All metadata fields are on this screen.

Core metadata

These are the fields every video should have before it's distributed or embedded:

  • Title — shown in your library, on your video website, and on distribution platforms. Keep it clear and descriptive.
  • Description — used by partners for indexing and display. Accurate, keyword-rich descriptions improve search performance on partner platforms.
  • Tags — help with feed filtering in VideoNest and improve searchability on partner platforms. Add as many relevant tags as apply.
  • Thumbnail — shown on your website, in your feeds, and by distribution partners. A 16:9 image gives the best compatibility across platforms.

CTV & distribution metadata

For videos going to CTV platforms or news syndication partners, additional metadata fields are available on the video detail page:

  • Episode number and season — for series content; required by some CTV partners for correct display
  • Chapters — timestamp-based chapter markers
  • Content rating — e.g. TV-G, TV-PG; required by platforms that filter by audience appropriateness
  • Categories — top-level content categories used for discovery and routing on partner platforms

These fields are especially important for Amazon Fire TV, Roku, and similar CTV partners, which have specific metadata requirements and may not surface content that is missing them.

AI metadata enhancement

When creating a distribution feed, you have the option to enable AI enhancements (off by default). When enabled, VideoNest will automatically optimize your video's title, description, tags, and categories to meet the specific requirements of that partner.

This setting is configured at the feed level, not per video. It applies to all videos flowing through that feed.

💡
Complete metadata before enabling feeds. Partners may reject or deprioritize content with missing title, description, or thumbnail. Filling these in before activating distribution saves troubleshooting later.
