Yahoo Feed
Reach audiences across Yahoo News, Yahoo Sports, Yahoo Finance, and Yahoo Entertainment through VideoNest's Yahoo video syndication support.
For general news syndication setup and a comparison of MSN vs. Yahoo distribution, see News Syndication. For the full MRSS field reference, see MRSS Feed Configuration.
About Yahoo video syndication
Yahoo's video syndication program places publisher video content across Yahoo's editorial properties. Content is surfaced based on category, recency, and relevance to Yahoo's audiences. VideoNest generates a feed formatted to Yahoo's MRSS ingestion specifications — field names, category taxonomy, and metadata requirements are handled automatically.
Yahoo's video syndication program is invite-only. Publishers must be reviewed and approved by Yahoo before content can be distributed. VideoNest has an established relationship with Yahoo and can support your application and onboarding process.
Yahoo video syndication is not self-service. If you're interested in distributing to Yahoo, contact the VideoNest team. We can connect you with the right Yahoo contacts and help prepare your application. VideoNest cannot guarantee acceptance — approval is determined by Yahoo's editorial team based on content quality, category fit, and audience alignment.
Creating a Yahoo feed
Yahoo feeds are Video feeds. Go to:
Media → Feeds → Create Feed → Video → Yahoo
You are then presented with two modes:
- Automated: VideoNest generates the feed from your full published library. All required Yahoo metadata fields are populated from your video metadata. Your feed URL is ready immediately after saving.
- Custom: Manually assign individual videos to this feed. No filters are available in Custom mode — you select each video one by one from your library. Use this when you want precise control over exactly which videos reach Yahoo.
Custom feed: assigning videos
In Custom mode there are no automated filters. To add videos to your feed, go to Media → Feeds → [Your Yahoo Feed] → Videos and add each video individually. Videos you add must still meet all Yahoo metadata requirements listed below.
Required metadata fields
VideoNest automatically populates all required Yahoo fields from your library metadata. These fields must be complete on every video in your feed:
| Field | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Title | Yes | Clear and descriptive; must accurately reflect video content |
| Description | Yes | Substantive description; helps Yahoo's editorial team assess category fit |
| Thumbnail | Yes | 16:9 aspect ratio; minimum 1280×720 recommended |
| Video file URL | Yes | Direct MP4 URL; must be publicly accessible and stable |
| Duration | Yes | Automatically derived from your video file |
| Publication date | Yes | ISO 8601 format; used for recency ranking on Yahoo properties |
| Category | Yes | Must map to Yahoo's content taxonomy (see below) |
| Publisher credit | Yes | Your channel name as registered with Yahoo; set in feed settings |
| Keywords | Recommended | Up to 25 tags; improves discovery across Yahoo's search and editorial surfaces |
| Content rating | Conditional | Required for mature content; defaults to general audience if omitted |
Category mapping
Yahoo uses a content taxonomy aligned to its editorial verticals. VideoNest maps your internal categories to the Yahoo taxonomy in your feed's Field Overrides settings. Yahoo's primary content categories are:
News · Sports · Finance · Entertainment · Lifestyle · Technology · Health · Autos · Travel · Food
To configure mapping: go to Media → Feeds → [Your Yahoo Feed] → Field Overrides → Category Mapping. Each of your internal categories can be mapped to a single Yahoo category.
Yahoo surfaces
Content distributed via VideoNest's Yahoo feed can appear across the following Yahoo properties, based on editorial placement and audience relevance:
- Yahoo News — editorial news hub with dedicated video sections
- Yahoo Sports — sports video highlights, commentary, and analysis
- Yahoo Finance — financial news and market video content
- Yahoo Entertainment — entertainment, pop culture, and celebrity video
- Yahoo homepage — featured content placement for approved publishers with high-performing content
AI metadata enhancements
Enable AI enhancements in the feed settings to automatically optimize titles, descriptions, keywords, and category assignments for Yahoo's editorial guidelines. Metadata quality is a key factor in Yahoo's placement decisions.
After saving, your feed URL appears on the feed detail page in Media → Feeds. This is the URL submitted to Yahoo during the onboarding process — either by you directly or with VideoNest's support. It never changes as you continue publishing.
